It is said that the face is the mirror of the soul. I am interested in the face of the soul. Or the infinite possibilities that the painting can reflect, converted, in my case, into that mirror.
Music is important in my creative process because it helps me stop thinking. I forget everything and start painting. In this way, reason or self-criticism stop bothering me and I can concentrate only on what the painting asks of me. I don't just listen to a certain style of music or a particular artist. I like jazz and electronic music. Painting with music accompanies me and makes the creative process less lonely.
The intention of my works is for the viewer to travel inside themselves and connect, through the painting, with some emotion or feeling they have experienced in their life.
Exhibiting in different places has meant a lot to me: that my painting can connect with very different people, but with something in common, intimate and at the same time universal.
Ernest Compta Llinàs
Ernest Compta Llinàs was born and lives in Barcelona, where he is an architect. Since 2008, his main activity has been painting. He finds inspiration in music and paints every day, whether morning, afternoon, or evening. For him, expressing himself through art is a vital need. Over the years, he has used all kinds of materials—charcoal, ink, pastel, oil—and supports, but has gradually settled on acrylics on canvas and paper. Although his painting style is constantly evolving, his works always revolve around the same theme: portraiture.
With a wide range of gestures and facial nuances, he exposes the enormous complexity of the human face and its inexhaustible range of expression. His aim is for each painting to capture the viewer's gaze and spark a dialogue from different perspectives. Sometimes the title he gives to the work serves as a suggestive introduction.
His artistic influences lie primarily in abstract art and expressionism. His key painters include Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Lucian Freud. He has exhibited in New York (USA), San Diego (USA), Milan, Rome, Venice, Cannes, Barcelona, London, Stockholm, and Cali (Colombia), among other cities. He has received several awards and has been published in numerous magazines, including Vogue, Vanity Fair, Revistart, and Spotlight Magazine, and has appeared on the cover of Jaamzin Creative in Singapore, Top Posters in New York, Figgi magazine in Milan, and Style Cruze in Los Angeles.
